Gregory Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate for the last presidential election in Nigeria, stopped by, to express his gratitude to his teeming supporters, known as the ‘Obidients,’ in Edo State today.
Recall, the former Anambra State Governor, rejected the outcome of the last presidential election in Nigeria, after loosing to the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, who Polled a total score of 8,724,726 votes, while Obi Polled a score of 6,101,533 votes.
The candidate of APC, Tinubu was declared winner of the Saturday February 25 presidential election, by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday March 1, 2023 and was given a certificate of return, the same day.
Although, the election was keenly contested by three major contenders; Tinubu, Obi and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of Peoples Democratic Party, who came second with a score of 6,984,520 votes but, Atiku and Obi have since rejected the outcome of the contest, claiming that their mandates have been stolen by Tinubu, with the help of INEC, which they believe, was compromised.
They have bother approached the court, to seek redress of the law, in challenging the election, they believe, was a fraud and against the will of the majority Voters.
However, Obi was in Edo State today, stated through his Twitter handle that, he was there to thank his loyalists for their support during and after the last election, and to also seek further support, for the coming March 18 governorship election in the state.
“I passed through Edo state today. I stopped by briefly to express my profound gratitude to the OBIdients for their support and asked them to extend same to the Governorship and House of Assembly candidates. -PO,’ he tweeted.
