Prof. Lilian Orogbu of the Labour Party has won the election for the Awka North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State.
The constituency’s returning officer, Dr. Uche Nriagu, delivered the result announcement on at the INEC Collation Center in Amawbia-Awka.
According to him, Mr. Obi Nwankwo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) received 24,814 votes, while Ms. Orogbu received 34,713 votes to defeat him.
The scores of the remaining candidates are as follows: PDP 21,850, YPP 2047, NNPP 244, ADC 108, NRM 33, and SDP 43.
Prof. Orogbu, who is also a lecturer at Nnamdi Azikwe University, promised in her speech that she would uphold the terms of her social contract with the people by providing competent representation.
While she extended hands of friendship to her opponents, she reaffirmed her resolve to bringing about transitions from the old to the new order.
