Popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as K1 De Ultimate, has publicly affirmed his membership in the Celestial Church of Christ, revealing that he not only worships there but also built a parish for the church.
The veteran performer made the revelation during a pre-recorded interview where he shared insights about his spiritual journey.
“I am a bonafide member of the Celestial Church. A proud one. In fact, I built a church,” he stated. “I sought different religions while trying to know God. I explored both Islam and Christianity, and I have no regrets.”
Although traditionally known as a Muslim, K1 explained that his decision to join the CCC stemmed from a personal quest to deepen his relationship with God.
The Celestial Church of Christ, founded by Samuel Oshoffa, is a Pentecostal denomination within the Aladura movement. Members of the church are known for wearing white garments and removing their shoes during worship.
This declaration comes amid a storm of controversy surrounding a viral phrase “Ganusi” used by K1 in a conversation about some Islamic clerics during preparations for his late mother’s funeral. The phrase, interpreted by many as a criticism of clerics who attend ceremonies for material benefits, sparked backlash from Muslim leaders.
Despite the criticism, the Fuji star remained unapologetic. “I said nothing wrong and I stand by it,” he maintained in his response to the uproar.
K1’s spiritual openness and refusal to conform to societal expectations continue to provoke debate, highlighting the complex relationship between religion, identity, and public perception in Nigeria.
