The Delta State Police Command has clarified that Pastor Love David, the husband of the late Chief Love Shimite Bello, who served as the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export, was not arrested but placed in protective custody due to concerns for his safety.
According to the Police, the development followed a complaint lodged by the family of the deceased, who raised suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her death and suggested that her husband might be involved.
In a statement, the Command explained that Pastor David had initially contacted them to report his wife’s death and to express fears over threats he had allegedly received from her family.
State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said, “He (the husband) was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, and feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety.”
Edafe emphasized that the move was purely a safety measure and not an arrest, adding that the police had now opened an investigation in response to the family’s formal complaint.
“We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes,” he added.
