Four individuals were fortunate to escape unscathed after a head-on collision involving two trucks on Easter Monday at the Lapeleke area of Ewekoro Local Government Area in Ogun State.
According to The PUNCH, the incident occurred around 10:25 a.m., according to a traffic report released by the Commandant of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Seni Ogunyemi.
Ogunyemi revealed that the accident happened when a MACK truck, allegedly driving against traffic due to a road diversion at the Lapeleke junction, lost control and collided with an oncoming HOWO truck.
“The MACK truck driver admitted to taking a one-way route because of the diversion,” Ogunyemi stated. “Unfortunately, he lost control and rammed into a HOWO truck coming from the opposite direction.”
The trucks involved were identified by their number plates as MUS 679 XL for the MACK truck and T-26154 LA for the HOWO truck.
“Four people were inside both vehicles at the time of the incident. Thankfully, no injuries were recorded and no lives were lost,” the TRACE boss confirmed.
This incident adds to a string of recent crashes across the state. Just a day before, a fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed one life when a truck driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into the median. Two other separate accidents on Saturday had left four people dead along the Ikorodu-Sagamu Expressway and the Oru/Ijebu-Igbo road.
Authorities continue to urge motorists to obey traffic rules, particularly regarding wrong-way driving, which remains a major cause of avoidable road crashes in the region.
