As part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and safe Easter celebration, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 1,525 personnel across Anambra State.
The deployment is in line with the joint operation tagged “Operation Udo ga chi Zero Kidnapping and Other Violent Crimes,” which aims to curb insecurity and protect critical infrastructure during the festive period.
Speaking in Awka, the NSCDC’s Head of Media and Tactical Operations in the state, Edwin Okadigbo, revealed that the Commandant of the Corps in Anambra, Maku Olatunde, issued a comprehensive operational directive during a tactical briefing at the command headquarters.
“Our personnel have been strategically deployed to secure worship centres, recreational facilities, amusement parks, marketplaces, and other identified flashpoints,” Okadigbo stated. “The Commandant has mandated that our officers be professional, civil, and conscious of citizens’ rights while maintaining vigilance and discipline in their duties.”
He said the officers were drawn from several specialized units, including Tactical Response Squad, Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti-Vandalism, Female Special Squad, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Energy Unit, among others.
Commandant Olatunde also extended Easter greetings to residents of Anambra, particularly Christians, encouraging them to embrace peace and pray for the unity and development of the country.
He urged the public to remain calm and security-conscious during the celebrations. “Citizens should go about their normal activities without fear. However, we advise them to stay alert and report any suspicious activity,” he said.
In case of emergencies, the NSCDC advised the public to reach out via the following emergency contact numbers: 08066769442, 08037909304, or 08035771835.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, property, and national assets while promoting a peaceful and joyous Easter season for all residents in the state.
