The Flying Eagles of Nigeria, the country’s U-20 national team, are set to lock horns with Kogi United Football Club in a high-stakes preseason friendly.
The encounter, scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025, will be held at 4 pm at the FIFA Goal Project, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
This was disclosed in a statement released by Kogi United’s Team Manager, Tijani Ibrahim, and made available to journalists on Wednesday.
“All arrangements have been concluded for the team who are preparing for the Nationwide League One playoffs to face the Flying Eagles of Nigeria who are preparing for the U-20 African Cup of Nations in Egypt later this month,” Ibrahim stated.
With the Flying Eagles gearing up for continental duty in Egypt, Kogi United are equally looking to put their squad to the test ahead of the 2025 Nationwide League One season, Nigeria’s third-tier football competition.
The Technical Adviser of Kogi United and a former handler of Jigawa Golden Stars, Coach Gilbert Opana, described the clash as a valuable opportunity for his side, noting that both teams are on the brink of significant campaigns.
“The game against the Flying Eagles is indeed a high profile one considering the fact that both teams are preparing for fresh challenges ahead,” he said.
Speaking earlier in Lokoja, Opana emphasized the importance of the timing and quality of the fixture.
“There’s no better time for a quality encounter like this,” he remarked. “I look forward to meeting the Flying Eagles, especially considering what the team have achieved so far under Coach Aliyu Zubairu.”
