No fewer than 47 persons were killed on Sunday night in a deadly attack on Zike community in Kimakpa, both located in the Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The massacre, which occurred around 8:00 pm, adds to the wave of violence that has plagued Plateau State in recent times. It came just over a week after a similarly brutal assault in Bokkos Local Government Area, where 52 lives were lost and properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
The National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Dickson Auta, confirmed the incident on Monday while speaking from Jos.
He disclosed that the attackers struck under the cover of darkness, causing massive casualties and injuries. “The attacks occurred around 8:00 pm resulting in the deaths of 47 people and leaving many others injured,” Auta stated.
As of the time of reporting, the Plateau State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement or respond publicly to the incident.
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Government has expressed serious concern over the continued occupation of local communities by armed groups. It noted that this persistent presence of hostile elements has contributed significantly to the escalation of violence and insecurity in the region.
The government emphasised the need for coordinated efforts between security agencies and local stakeholders to reclaim occupied areas and restore lasting peace in the state.
