The Lagos State Police Command has begun a thorough investigation into an explosion that rocked a CCTV dealer’s shop on Kodesho Street, close to the bustling Computer Village in Ikeja, on Friday evening.
According to a late-night statement from the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the blast occurred around 6:35 p.m.
In response, security operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and other conventional police teams swiftly cordoned off the scene to prevent further danger and ensure public safety.
“The scene of the explosion and adjoining areas were immediately taken over and cordoned off by operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the Command, the Mobile Police Detachment and Conventional Lagos State Police Command Police Teams,” the statement read.
EOD experts swept the affected area to secure it and enable a detailed investigation aimed at uncovering the cause of the blast.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, also visited the location not long after the explosion for a firsthand assessment.
He urged the public to remain calm, stating that the area had been secured and rendered safe for normal activities.
“The Command hereby wishes to assure the general public of its Lagos State Police Command commitment to continue to maintain peace and security throughout the state,” Hundeyin added.
Police confirmed that five individuals who were within and around the shop at the time of the explosion sustained various degrees of injuries. They have been taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for treatment.
