The United Kingdom Police have charged renowned actor and comedian Russell Brand with rape and multiple counts of assault following allegations dating from 1999 to 2005.
In an official statement, the police disclosed that Brand, who resides in Oxfordshire, southern England, faces charges of one count of rape, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault. These charges involve four separate women.
The Crown Prosecution Service in England announced on Friday that it had authorised London’s Metropolitan Police to proceed with charges related to several sexual offences.
The decision to charge Brand followed a thorough police investigation, which was initiated after a television news documentary aired on the UK’s Channel 4 in 2023, shedding light on the allegations.
Jaswant Narwal of the CPS stated, “We have concluded that Russell Brand should be charged with the alleged offences. These relate to reported non-recent offences between 1999 and 2005, involving four women.”
Brand is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2.
