The Delta State Police Command has arrested two farm workers, David Tacho and Daniel Orshio, for allegedly conspiring in the murder of their site manager, Chigozie Udalor.
Meanwhile, two other suspects, Pius Daniel and Victor Tacho, remain on the run.
The crime came to light after Hyacinth Nnalue, a cousin of the deceased, lodged a report at the Akwukwu-Igbo Police Division on December 12, 2024.
Nnalue stated that Udalor, who managed a fish pond at Bod Camp in Akwukwu-Igbo, had been missing since December 10.
Confirming the arrests in a statement on Thursday, Delta Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe explained that the case was initially investigated by the Akwukwu-Igbo division before being handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further probing.
“In line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, a technically driven investigation was initiated,” Edafe stated.
The breakthrough in the case came on March 31, 2025, when officers apprehended David Tacho as he attempted to withdraw money from the victim’s Moniepoint account using his phone.
His alleged accomplice, Daniel Orshio, was also taken into custody.
Further investigations uncovered a disturbing plot. The suspects, all employed by Udalor, had conspired to kill him upon discovering he had money in his account.
Edafe stated, “The suspects were all employed by the deceased. However, after discovering he had money in his Moniepoint account, they conspired, struck him on the head with a hammer, tied him up, and buried him in a shallow grave at the site.”
With the arrests, the police exhumed the victim’s body for an autopsy while intensifying efforts to capture the remaining fugitives.
