A young, talented Nigerian, Success Egbekoba, has made history by breaking the Guinness World Record for the Longest Time Reading Aloud by an Individual.
Egbekoba achieved this remarkable feat by reading aloud for an impressive 250 hours, surpassing the previous record of 215 hours set by Samson Ajao.
The reading marathon, which took place recently at the College of Education, Warri, saw Egbekoba overcome several challenges to secure the record. Despite encountering technical hitches at the beginning of the event, she remained determined and successfully completed the competition, ultimately lifting the trophy.
Egbekoba, who hails from Delta State and is also an entrepreneur, shared that the purpose of the reading-aloud marathon was to promote literacy at a time when many young adults are increasingly drawn to cyber fraud instead of education. She emphasized that the idea behind the project was to inspire every child to stay committed to their goals and aspirations.
Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, Egbekoba said, “It was also designed to encourage every child, particularly girl child or women, to pursue their dreams to achieve their heart’s desires.”
According to her, the programme also aimed to reach out to the less privileged who lack the means to further their education. She highlighted the importance of providing hope and motivation to young people, particularly girls, to strive for success regardless of their circumstances.
Egbekoba’s record-breaking accomplishment has not only brought pride to Nigeria but also sparked conversations about the importance of literacy and the need to encourage young people to embrace education.
