The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has launched a scathing attack on the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, describing him as a “portrait of frustration” who finds pleasure in sensationalizing the “temporary” challenges Nigerians are facing due to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.
Morka made this remark in a statement issued on Wednesday, where he criticized Obi for what he termed as delusional thinking. According to Morka, it is unreasonable for a man who struggled to manage the 21 local government areas in Anambra State to imagine himself capable of running the entire country.
In his statement, Morka recalled that during a television interview on Tuesday in Abuja, the former Anambra State governor once again criticized President Tinubu’s performance in implementing economic policy reforms, claiming that he would have done better.
Morka described Obi’s comments as painful to watch, stating that the former governor’s attempt to construct a coherent economic argument failed miserably when juxtaposed with the clear progress being recorded under Tinubu’s administration.
“Even Mr Obi’s trademark opportunistic sensationalization of transient difficulties that Nigerians have endured in patriotic support of the President’s bold and transformative economic plan availed no respite, as he floundered on national television, framing himself as a portrait of frustration and political desperation,” Morka stated.
He further mocked Obi’s repeated assertion that he would have performed better as president, calling it a “symptom of a protracted bout of election failure-induced hangover from which he has not awakened to the reality that he is not the president.”
“Like an unlicensed back seat driver that thinks himself to be a race car driver, Mr Obi needs to tame his bloated and deluded imagination,” Morka remarked.
He emphasized that opposition politics should not revolve around denying the administration’s accomplishments but should instead focus on critiquing areas of weakness while acknowledging successes.
Morka said, “The steady progress of the Tinubu administration across sectors is undeniable and evident for all Nigerians to see.”
The APC spokesman went on to criticize Obi’s tenure as governor, alleging that he left Anambra State in a state of economic stagnation, infrastructural decay, ecological disaster, and religious polarization. Morka argued that Obi’s boasts of being capable of governing Nigeria as Africa’s largest democracy were laughable given his performance in Anambra.
“It is hysterical that Mr Obi, who was governor of a failed and forgotten administration in Anambra State of only 21 Local Government Areas, would so brazenly boast of his capacity to govern Africa’s largest democracy,” he stated.
According to Morka, while global institutions and experts commend President Tinubu’s unfolding economic revolution, Obi and his fellow opposition members continue to deny the administration’s “superlative and incomparable near mid-term successes and achievements.”
Morka concluded by asserting that the progress made under President Tinubu’s leadership is not only visible but also a testament to the administration’s commitment to positive change despite the challenges faced.
