The All Progressives Congress has called on security agencies to investigate the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, following recent revelations by Dr George Nwaeke, the former Head of the State Civil Service.
Dr Nwaeke alleged that state officials, under Fubara’s guidance, orchestrated the bombing of the State Assembly.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the APC Rivers State Chairman, Sir Tony Chidugam Okocha, stated that Dr Nwaeke’s public declaration has vindicated the party’s earlier stance. Okocha noted that as the Head of Service during the time of the incident, Nwaeke was the third most senior official in the state, making his testimony credible and significant.
“The APC in Rivers State strongly believes that the relevant security agencies will professionally investigate this matter and make their findings public,” Okocha said. He dismissed the verbal attacks against Dr Nwaeke as mere distractions, insisting that they would not deter the former Head of Service from exposing the alleged misconduct of Fubara’s administration.
Okocha affirmed that the APC would continue to act as a watchdog on the matter, stressing that the party had consistently pointed to Fubara as the mastermind behind the crisis.
The APC also accused Fubara of wasting taxpayers’ money, highlighting the state’s financial struggles amid global economic challenges. The party alleged that within 48 hours of the bombing, Fubara personally supervised the demolition of the assembly complex, cheered on by his supporters.
The APC referred to the Supreme Court’s unanimous judgement delivered on 28th February 2025, which described Fubara as a “Dictator.” Okocha asserted that the latest revelations from Dr Nwaeke further validated the party’s long-standing claim that Fubara was responsible for the political crisis in Rivers State. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for declaring a state of emergency in Rivers, a move aimed at restoring law and order amidst the escalating tensions.
According to Okocha, Dr Nwaeke’s testimony should not be dismissed as hearsay, as it represents an eyewitness account. “What is most interesting to the APC in Rivers State as a responsible political party is that Dr George Nwaeke’s revelations and testimonies of how suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his squad bombed the Rivers State House of Assembly is an eyewitness account,” he stated.
The APC insisted that the suspended governor’s actions had plunged Rivers State into chaos and demanded that security agencies thoroughly investigate the matter. Okocha expressed confidence that the truth would eventually prevail, noting that the party’s efforts to expose Fubara’s alleged misconduct have strengthened its position as a viable opposition party and a voice for the people of Rivers State.
The party also called on well-meaning citizens of Rivers to remain vigilant and supportive of efforts to restore peace and good governance in the state.
