The member of the House of Representatives for Ideato North and South Constituency, Ikenga Ugochinyere, has expressed confidence that Governor Siminalaya Fubara of Rivers State will contest and win the 2027 elections.
During a meeting with his constituents in Akokwa, Imo State, Ugochinyere cautioned that any attempt to withhold the federal allocation to Rivers State would lead to a security crisis.
He explained that such a move would disrupt essential services, including the payment of salaries to public servants, particularly teachers, according to NaijaNews.
Ugochinyere also addressed the recent defection of 27 Rivers State lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress, who are seeking to take control of the state’s House of Assembly.
He argued that their actions were part of a strategy to destabilize the state and impeach Governor Fubara.
According to Ugochinyere, the defections occurred at a time when there was no internal crisis within the party, indicating a politically motivated attempt to undermine the governor.
The lawmaker called for intervention from the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, urging her to take action to ensure justice is served in the ongoing political situation in Rivers State.
“Let me ask, if you seize the allocation to Rivers, can you guarantee security and payment of salaries to teachers and everyone?
“They want to make the place fail so that they can impeach the governor. But let me tell you, Fubara will contest and he will win in 2027,” Ugochinyere said.
