The Young Progressives Party has advised the Federal Government to reconsider its decision to proceed with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, despite criticisms from the opposition.
The National Publicity Secretary of the YPP, Mr. Egbeola Martins, made this statement during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday.
Martins urged the government to prioritize other sectors that require immediate attention instead of moving forward with the Lagos-Calabar project.
He emphasized the need for the government to prioritize critical sectors requiring immediate attention before embarking on new projects.
“In line with a popular saying, the key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities. This comes to mind at this critical moment with the government’s failure to properly schedule its priorities,” Martins said.
He added, “Especially in the midst of abject poverty exacerbated by the implementation of reckless and insensitive anti-masses policies.
“The Lagos-Calabar coastal project, while necessary, is not expedient at this time. Therefore, it is not the immediate priority of the government, considering the more pressing issues such as the poor state of education, health, power, insecurity, and poverty confronting the nation.”
Martins pointed out that considering the numerous abandoned projects across the country, such as the Ajaokuta steel project, East-West Road, and the Lagos-Abuja Supersonic Highway, the Lagos-Calabar project should be put on hold.
