In a decisive move to bolster public safety, Karasuwa Local Government Area in Yobe State has introduced a new bye-law that bans the possession of cutlasses and other sharp objects in its communities and markets.
The Director of Personnel Management of the Council, Magaji Muhammad, shared this development with journalists, stating that the law was introduced in response to growing safety concerns and the increasing risk of violence linked to the uncontrolled carrying of such items in public.
He emphasized that the purpose of the regulation is to promote peace, protect lives and property, and create a secure and welcoming atmosphere for both residents and visitors.
“The bye-law aims to maintain peace, safeguard lives and property, and foster a secure and conducive environment for all residents and visitors,” Muhammad stated.
To ensure compliance, the Council has mobilized security agencies to enforce the regulation through vigilant monitoring of town and market entry points, regular patrols, and the arrest of those who violate the law.
“Adequate public sensitisation campaign has been initiated to ensure that all residents are aware of the new regulation,” he added.
The DPM further appealed to the judiciary to support the initiative by ensuring swift prosecution of offenders, in line with the new legal provisions.
