In a significant development, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that President Bola Tinubu has given approval for the construction of 40 houses for judges serving in the Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, and FCT High Courts.
At a groundbreaking ceremony for the Court of Appeal’s Abuja division, Wike revealed that the project aims to provide decent housing for the judiciary.
According to Daily Post, the houses will be allocated equally among the three courts, with 10 each for the Court of Appeal and Federal High Court, and 20 for the FCT Courts.
In addition, the President has approved the construction of retirement homes for judges and justices, starting with the heads of courts.
The project is expected to be completed by September 2025, with the foundation laying ceremony scheduled for August.
This development is seen as a significant step towards improving the welfare of judges and enhancing the judiciary’s efficiency in the FCT.
“I want to assure you, by the grace of God, the foundation of these homes will be laid this August and before September next year, you will all have your keys to your houses,” Wike said.
