The Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas, has recently reached out to the leadership of both the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, in agreements to reopen the Danbaba Suntai Airport in Jalingo.
The airport, which commenced operations in 2017, was recently shut down by the immediate past governor of the state, Darius Dickson Ishaku.
Since the closure of the airport, those seeking to travel by air in Taraba State have to first travel to the Yola International Airport in Adamawa State.
However, according to Daily Post, since he was sworn in barely 11 days ago, the governor has been working round the clock to bring the airport back to life.
Aside from easing the burden of travelling to Yola in Adamawa State to board a flight, the governor described the airport as strategic to the growth of the state.
He, therefore, expressed his commitment to do everything humanly possible to inject life back into the project.
The authorities of NCAA have promised to work with the governor to resuscitate the abandoned airport.
Similarly, the counterpart authorities of FAAN are said to have also pledged to support the state and the governor to facilitate the reopening of the airport.
The publication reported that on Monday an ambulance was made available to the airport management by the state government.
According to one of the senior staff members of the airport, the donation is an indication that “this present governor is determined to make this airport work again.”
