Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on traditional rulers across the state to strengthen their support for his administration’s efforts to foster peace, security, and overall development.
This appeal was made on Wednesday during the coronation ceremony of the new Onifiditi of Fiditi, Oba Sakiru Oyewole Adekola-Oyelere, at Fiditi Grammar School in Fiditi, Oyo State.
The event saw the attendance of several notable figures, including the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, who was represented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Chieftaincy Matters, Akintunde Emmanuel. Also present were Deputy Chief of Staff, Fola Oyekunle, and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo.
Governor Makinde, represented at the ceremony by Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, emphasized the importance of collaboration between traditional institutions and government authorities. He urged Oba Adekola-Oyelere to actively work with the government to address key community issues and leverage the natural resources of Fiditi for the region’s benefit.
“I am happy that the necessary arrangements to ensure the peaceful reign of our Kabiyesi have been done. The government of Oyo State wants you to collaborate with it in addressing pressing issues such as community development, education, healthcare and security. You are expected to work hand in hand with us to tackle these challenges,” Makinde stated through his deputy.
Makinde further highlighted the critical role of traditional rulers in community development and security. “The traditional institution and government authorities must join forces to promote security and overall development. We have to tell you, the people of Fiditi, that there can never be growth in a land where there is no security. And the issue of security is every man’s business,” he said.
He also encouraged the new Onifiditi to transform Fiditi’s natural resources into commercial opportunities that will benefit both the community and the state. “The development our Kabiyesi wants in this land can’t be achieved by word of mouth but by action. We have to work together with the government and the palace to ensure there is security. We know that this land is a land of commerce, as it is blessed with fruits,” Makinde added.
