Vice President Kashim Shettima has met with minors who were released from legal proceedings tied to the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting followed President Bola Tinubu’s directive to drop charges against these young individuals.
The #EndBadGovernance protest, held from August 1 to 10, highlighted the economic hardships facing Nigerians and sparked widespread reactions across the country.
Among those charged were 119 individuals, including minors, facing allegations of treason and incitement. The legal actions against them drew significant public criticism, prompting calls for their release.
In response to the public outcry, the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, requested the case files from the police, initiating a review of the charges.
Earlier today, the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out all charges, leading to the release of the detainees. This included 32 minors in the first group of 76 individuals and a second group of 43.
In his meeting with the released minors, Vice President Shettima underscored the government’s responsiveness to public sentiment and reiterated the administration’s commitment to addressing the nation’s economic challenges.
