Former Senator Shehu Sani has lambasted ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s decision to seek legal action against the Kaduna State House of Assembly’s report accusing him of N432bn theft.
Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, accused El-Rufai of hypocrisy, citing his past disregard for court orders and contempt for the judiciary.
Sani’s remarks come after El-Rufai filed a suit to quash the Assembly’s report, alleging breach of his right to a fair hearing.
Taking to X on Thursday, Sani highlighted El-Rufai’s history of disobeying court orders, demolishing houses, seizing lands, and retrenching civil servants during his tenure as Minister of FCT and Governor of Kaduna State.
Sani’s comments suggest that El-Rufai’s sudden reliance on the court for justice is ironic, given his past actions.
In a cryptic post, without directly mentioning El-Rufai’s name, Sani wrote:
“The man who defied court orders and demolished the houses and shops of people is now seeking justice in the court.
“The man who defied court orders and seized people’s lands and shared it to others is now seeking justice in the court.
“The man who defied court orders and retrenched thousands of civil servants and teachers is now seeking justice in the court.
““The man who defied court orders and refused to pay compensation to his victims is now seeking justice in the court.
“The man who incapacitated and impoverished judges in his state is now seeking justice from the courts.
“The man who arrested journalists and people expressing their opinions on social media is now seeking justice from the court.
“The man with a known history of disobedience to the rule of law and contempt against judges, judgments and the Judiciary is now seeking justice from the same institution.”
Recall that El-Rufai had, on Wednesday, filed a suit through his lawyer, A.U. Mustapha, alleging that the Assembly breached his right to a fair hearing by not inviting him in the course of the probe.
He urged the court to declare the report of the Assembly’s ad hoc committee indicting it null and void.
