The recent cabinet reshuffle has received mixed reactions, with Senator Ali Ndume calling for further action.
Ndume, representing Borno South senatorial district, has urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss more underperforming ministers.
Ndume commended Tinubu’s introduction of the Ministry of Regional Development, describing it as a masterstroke, according to Politics Nigeria.
However, he emphasized that more needs to be done to improve government efficacy. The senator expressed concerns that some ministers are still “missing in action” and should be removed.
Additionally, Ndume suggested expanding the “de-dollarisation” initiative by positioning Nigeria to join BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa).
This move would benefit Nigerian businesses, especially those trading with China, by reducing reliance on the US dollar and easing pressure on the naira.
Ndume also recommended convening a national economic conference involving key stakeholders. This conference would aim to explore local solutions for Nigeria’s economic challenges, bringing together the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, the National Economic Adviser, and prominent Nigerian economists.
The senator’s recommendations are aimed at supporting President Tinubu’s efforts to build a better Nigeria. By addressing underperformance and exploring economic solutions, Ndume hopes to contribute to the country’s development.
This development highlights the ongoing discussions surrounding President Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle and Nigeria’s economic future.
“More needs to be done as some ministers are still ‘missing in action.
“I’m particularly pleased about establishing the Ministry of Regional Development to oversee regional commissions.
“The President’s decision to streamline ministries also exemplifies his commitment to reducing the cost of governance,” Ndume said.
