The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has dedicated his victory at the appeal court today, to the residents of Osun State.
The Governor, who stated that the court’s judgment is a confirmation of the will of the people, said he dedicated the victory to God and his people.
“I thank God Almighty and our good people of Osun state. I dedicate this victory to God and my people. The judiciary has now confirmed the will of the people that I am the validly elected Governor of my state,” he tweeted.
An Appeal Court sitting in Abuja had on Friday, delivered a ruling on the Osun State governorship election contested by Governor Ademola Adeleke and his predecessor, Gboyega Oyetola.
The Court declared that the All Progressives Congress and Oyetola failed to ascertain their overvoting case against Adeleke.
However, the Appeal Court set aside the decision of the Osun State Governorship tribunal, which had earlier declared Oyetola as the winner of the election, and upheld the Governorship of Senator Ademola Adeleke.
In the Friday ruling, the Appeal Court affirmed Adeleke as the authentic governor of Osun State.
It would be recalled that Adebgoyega Oyetola, the immediate former governor of the state and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, had challenged Ademola Adeleke’s victory in the July 16 governorship election, before the election petition tribunal sitting in Osogbo, Osun state.
The tribunal, led by Justice Tertse Kume, in a split judgment of 2 to 1, sacked Adeleke based on irregularities in 744 polling units across ten local government areas of the state.
It nullified the alleged illegal votes and declared Oyetola, the winner on legally valid votes.
It also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Adeleke and give it to Oyetola.
Unsatisfied with the outcome of the tribunal, Adeleke headed to the Appeal Court, to set aside the tribunal judgment and retain his seat, as the number one citizen in the State.
