The Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State has urged its members and supporters across the State, to remain calm over the Saturday judgment of the Appeal Court, which upheld the election of Governor Alex Otti, as the duly elected winner of the March 18 Governorship election in the State.
The PDP while reacting to the ruling by the Appellate Court through a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Abraham Amah on Saturday, vowed to “explore the options available,” to reclaim its alleged mandate.
The party urged its members and supporters spread across the state to be calm, noting that the party is still reviewing the judgement of the court.
PDP had filed a suit before the Appeal Court, challenging Otti’s victory in the March 18, 2023, governorship election in the State, alleging that the election was marred by irregularities, including manipulation of results.
Meanwhile, a three-man panel of justices of the Appeal Court in a unanimous decision on Saturday, while upholding Otti’s victory, dismissed the petition by the PDP and the All Progressives Congress.
The Appellate Court ruled that the appellants’ petitions lacked merit, describing them as “a comedy skit brought to a democratic setting.”
However, Amah in reaction to the judgement on Saturday, said that the PDP “has a duty to the people of Abia State to ensure that their votes count and that their voices are heard.”
