A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has expressed his readiness to take a further step, by seeking to approach the court on the issue of a US Court Subpoena, which a popular Arise Television host, Rufai Oseni claimed on the 22nd of November, 2022, to have been sent to the Chicago State University, compelling the institution to release President Bola Tinubu’s academic record.
Omokri who made this disclosure through his X handle on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, stated that he would back down on the issue, noting that it was a crusade to clean up the media, to guide against propaganda.
According to him, we cannot have journalists, passing off lies as news to the public because of their connections to the political figures in the society.
It would be recalled that Reno Omokri, who claimed with video evidence, to have inquired about Tinubu’s academic record at CSU, challenged Oseni, who claimed on one of his programmes on Arise Television, on November 22, 2022, that the CSU denied having known anyone bearing Bola Tinubu, after receiving a subpoena from a US Court, to produce a copy of the US subpoena, after the CSU’s response to Atiku Abubakar’s request from the institution.
Meanwhile, Oseni has not been able to produce a copy of the alleged subpoena, while Omokri also continues to drag him, on the issue.
However, the former presidential aide, while commenting on the development on Tuesday, wrote: “Someone who can lie to the public on video that he is my cousin when I have absolutely no familial or blood relationship with him beyond the generosity of my late parents and can lie on national television about a sensitive matter of vital national importance like the actual academic status of a then Presidential candidate poses a serious threat to the credibility of the media.
“That is why I call on all Nigerians who want to know the truth about whether or not President Bola Tinubu attended Chicago State University to call on Rufai Oseni to #PublishTheSubpoena by which he claimed that Chicago State University denied Bola Tinubu’s academic credentials, especially now that Chicago State University has deposed to an affidavit in court on August 23, 2023, stating that Bola Tinubu, the current President of Nigeria, did attend and graduate from their university.
“We cannot have a so-called journalist passing off lies as news to the public because of his connections to politicians and then falsely accusing the person telling the truth of lying.
“I am not going to let this go, and I am prepared to take this to the highest judicial levels. This is a crusade to clean up our media until it is a vessel for truth, and not for propaganda.”
