The Ogun State House of Assembly has officially confirmed the appointments of nominees for various statutory commissions, following a screening exercise conducted the previous week.
The lawmakers declared the nominees competent and fit to assume their respective roles, in line with Section 198 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The confirmation was the result of a report submitted by the Committee of the Whole House, led by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide and presented on Tuesday by Deputy Speaker Bolanle Lateefat Ajayi. She subsequently moved for the adoption of the report.
Her motion was seconded by Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye and unanimously endorsed through a voice vote by the entire Assembly.
Following the adoption, Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff proposed the conversion of the report into a House resolution.
This motion was again seconded by the Minority Leader and received full backing from all lawmakers present.
Speaker Elemide then directed that the resolution confirming the nominees be forwarded to Governor Dapo Abiodun for further action.
In another development, the House held a minute of silence in honour of two notable sons of Ogun State: former Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Ambassador Tunde Oladunjoye, and former state lawmaker James Bankole, who represented Yewa North 1 State Constituency in 1999.
Bankole passed away on March 26, 2025, at the age of 84.
The tribute followed announcements by Hon. Waliu Owode of Ijebu-East State Constituency and Hon. Adegoke Adeyanju of Yewa North 1 State Constituency, who brought the sad news to the Assembly floor.
