The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has apprehended a previously convicted drug trafficker who served time in an Asian country, for allegedly attempting to smuggle crystal methamphetamine concealed inside loudspeakers.
This was made known in a statement shared on Sunday by the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle.
Babafemi described the suspect as a “recidivist” who returned to trans-border drug trafficking despite having a previous conviction for similar offences abroad.
“From being convicted and jailed in Asia for drug offences to becoming a trans-border trafficker back home—this is the story of the brain behind the concealment in this video,” the agency posted, alongside footage of the seized illicit consignment. “What a recidivist!” the statement added.
Although the identity of the suspect and details of the arrest location were not disclosed in the statement, the video showed NDLEA operatives uncovering crystal methamphetamine skillfully hidden inside the casing of loudspeakers.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking networks operating within and across Nigeria’s borders. Babafemi stated that the agency would continue to intensify surveillance and intelligence gathering to apprehend repeat offenders and prevent the proliferation of hard drugs in the country.
“The message is clear—there is no hiding place for drug traffickers, whether first-timers or repeat offenders,” Babafemi said.
