The Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, has pledged for support for Governor Umo Eno till 2031.
The deputy speaker expressed his allegiance on Saturday during the first quarterly Ward Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ward Seven, Itu Local Government Area of the state.
“There are rumours in some quarters that our Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who is the leader of our party in the state, will soon join the APC because of his closeness to leaders of the government at the centre but he has told us that he will remain in the PDP and will contest election in 2027 under PDP and will win,” he said.
He opined that Pastor Eno will remain a PDP member irrespective of his closeness to the President of the Federal Republic, Bola Tinubu and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
He reiterated that the governor, being a cleryman is peaceful and with his good heart, he can relate with all amicably.
He refuted rumours that the governor is making plans to decamp to All Progressives Congress due to his closeness to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and President Bola Tinubu.
He stated that the dorminant party in Akwa Ibom State is the Peoples Democratic Party which is the reason for influx of decampees into the party.
“As a man of God, who stands for peace and coexistence, he will continue to respect President Tinubu and support his administration to move the country forward.
“The way it is going and considering the number of decampees we received back to the party recently, you will realise very soon that there is no other party in Akwa Ibom apart from PDP,” he stated.
Meanwhile, over 30,000 people were recently received into the PDP family from other parties in the state, including leaders of Young Peoples Party, APC, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Social Democratic Party inter alia.
