The Social Democratic Party in Kogi State has accused the Commissioner of Police, Berthrand Onuoha, of being biased and not providing enough security for its activities.
However, the CP has dismissed the allegations as baseless and unfounded.
He said the SDP is disrespecting his office by not following the proper channels to request security cover during their campaigns. He also said the party has failed to honour several invitations by the command to discuss their concerns.
According to Daily Post, he made these remarks in Lokoja on Tuesday while addressing journalists on the security situation in the state ahead of the gubernatorial election.
He said he was ready to work with all political parties who respect the rule of law and due process.
He also warned politicians and their supporters to refrain from any actions that could disrupt the peace and security of the state. He urged the citizens of Kogi State to be law-abiding and vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
He said the command was making progress in combating crime and ensuring a safe environment for the people. He cited some recent arrests and recoveries of arms and ammunition by the police as examples of their achievements.
He appealed to the public to cooperate with the police and other security agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible election in the state.
