An aide to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Phrank Shaibu, has berated President Bola Tinubu over a plan to pay N8,000 monthly to 12 million poor households.
Shaibu in a statement issued on Thursday, described the plan as a “joke.’
Premium Politics had earlier reported that President Tinubu wrote a letter to the National Assembly, requesting the lawmakers to sign a portion of the Constitution that will enable the government to give palliative to Nigerians, to help cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal on the citizens.
However, the $800 million loan approval, sought as palliative by the president was approved on Wednesday, July 23, 2023.
In his reaction to the approval of the loan, Shaibu who described the plan as uninspiring, asked if the money was to buy ground nuts or sachet water, alleging that Tinubu plans to tax people to death as he allegedly did in Lagos state.
The PDP Chieftain who stated that President Tinubu boasted that he will develop Nigeria’s economy as he did in Lagos, allege that his plan is a scam, alleging that the ruling All Progressives Congress, has lost favour from a majority of the Nigerian populace.
“According to statistics, a Nigerian household as of 2019 counted on an average of 5.06 members,” he said.
“So, with Tinubu’s uninspiring plan, each individual in a household will get N1,600 per month or N53 per day. What should they do with it? Using the money to buy a sachet (pure) water or a cup of boiled ground daily boasted that he would develop Nigeria’s economy like that of Lagos but this was all a scam. Statistics show that over 70 per cent of Lagos’s revenue comes from income tax paid by private companies which had been in Lagos for decades due to its status as Nigeria’s former capital.
“His only plan is to tax Nigerians to death as he did in Lagos and that is why the people of Lagos rejected him in the last election,” he said.
He added, “It is no coincidence that since 2019 when the party invented the charade of trader Moni, it also incontrovertibly introduced the menace of vote buying into Nigeria’s politics.”
