The Federal Lawmaker representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Ifeanyi Ubah, has reportedly joined the All Progressives Congress.
Uba in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a brief plenary session on Thursday, said his defection was due to irreconcilable differences in the Young Progressive Party.
The letter further explained that Senator Uba’s decision was in the interest of his constituents.
The Senator who recently won another four-year term in the Senate, during the February 25 National Assembly election in Anambra state, defected from the YPP, under the platform he contested, to join the ruling APC on Thursday, October 12, 2023.
The Anambra-born lawmaker who is a Nigerian business tycoon, politician and philanthropist, was formerly a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, and the Vice Chairman of the Petroleum Upstream Senate Committee from June 2019 to June 2023.
The federal lawmaker had sometimes pledged his support to the South East government, to combat Sit-at-home and insecurity in the zone.
Ubah, during an interview with Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on July 13, 2023, noted that his initiative was intended to supplement the existing mechanisms of the Anambra state government to curb the insecurity crisis in the state and the Southeast region as a whole.
“For me, in Anambra State, my coming on board is to add to what the governor or the government of Anambra is doing. We’re working in partnership with the governor; he’s the chief security officer.
“I felt that there are some missing links; he has the state apparatus and security network in the state. I wanted to complement it by giving a little support to already existing vigilante groups in my constituency,” he said.
