Data obtained from the recently presented 2023 National Budget revealed that the office of the President and Vice-President respectively are expected to get N11.92bn on local and foreign trips and the presidential air fleet.
Premium Politics on Friday reported the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), presented to a joint session of the National Assembly a budget proposal of N20.51tn for the 2023 fiscal year.
According to The PUNCH, the budget is nearly N750 billion higher than the N19.76 trillion recommended in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper for 2023-2025.
As obtained from the proposed budget, the sum of N1.58 billion has been earmarked for aircraft maintenance and N1.60 billion for the overhaul of the Gulfstream GV and CL605 aircraft engines.
A review of the appropriation bill found that the President’s Office will spend N2.49 billion on domestic and overseas visits, while the Vice-Office President’s will spend N846.61 million on the same item.
The PAF’s budget is categorized under the Office of the National Security Adviser in the document.
The government would spend N250 million on aircraft fueling, N1.50 billion on air navigation and defense equipment, and N650 million on a new mobile helicopter landing pad.
On the other hand, National Assembly members would receive N100 billion for constituency projects, which the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission claims have a history of corruption.
It would be recalled that in the 2022 appropriation bill, the sum of N100 billion was also proposed for the execution of constituency projects for all the 479 members of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
